Once it is installed I found that there is a setting you have to turn on for the app to function correctly in the background:
For some reason during development I set this option only to find when I returned that it was Off again! To fix it I had to deliberately turn it Off (so On, Off) and then On again. Then it seemed to stick. Must be a bug with Samsung Wear.
